SJ Henderson

1. Who are you? What do you do?  I am just a guy who likes to get lost in my imaginations. I ended up writing the book Dear Love, Are you dead? because I thought of taking a vacation to an imaginary world filled with chaos and nightmares that I created.
2. What is your writing process? Do you follow a regular routine?  I don’t follow a regular routine. Whenever I feel like getting lost in my imaginary world, I open my word pad file and start writing the things I feel inside my head. Usually I write for six days a week.
3. What are the most important elements of good writing? According to you, what tools are must-haves for writers?  One needs to have passion towards writing and if authors are just gonna write books for the sake of money. I don’t think it will lead them anywhere. Dear Love, Are you dead? is a success because it was not written for the sake of money. It was written to impress a woman named Merlyn and later the passionate work paid off by getting more than 200 copies sold in the first two days.
4. What motivates you to write?  The reactions of the readers is what motivates me to write more. I enjoy the people getting fascinated with my work and getting thrilled at the scenes I created in the book and also laughing at the jokes I came up with. It gives me an immense amount of joy and happiness to see them react to what I have written. That motivates me to write!
5. Do you ever suffer from writer’s block? If so, what do you do about it?  I cant impress people of all ages. For the people who are into romance and comedy, I don’t end up satisfying them as my books are mostly about nightmares and chaotic situations filled with dark matter. There in lies my problem, but I don’t really focus on people of all ages. I have a specific set of audience to target and I am satisfied with the fans who love the way my mind works.
6. Do you have any advice for other writers?  Don’t write to earn. Write to learn.
7. What is the message in your book? What are your readers’ reactions to it?  Readers are fascinated by the book and they are waiting for the second part. Cally Taylor, one of the best authors of the best selling novel The Lie mentioned that my book is one of her favourites which delighted me a lot and her review in amazon attracted many readers to have a look at my book.
8. Did you learn anything from writing your book and what was it?  I learnt how to spend hours writing without getting tired.
9. What are your current/future projects?   Dear Love, Are you dead? is a success. I am working on the second part right now, but I haven’t named it yet. Excited to work with this project since the second part is going to be a lot more darker than the first one.
10. What book(s)/author(s) have influenced your life and writing?  American Gods and The passage are the two books which inspired me to write.
11. Is there any other information you want to share?  I would love to thank my beautiful friend Merlyn who was the prime reason why I ended up writing a book. She helped me financially to get the book contesting in the annual book of the year competition and got many people buy the book. She did not buy the book however since she is playing the role of a witch in my book!
